Can you solve this riddle?

There's a orphan on one side of the bridge. The bridge is up and you cannot put it down. On the other side of the bridge there is his father. In the water below the bridge there are lots of alligators, sharks, crocs, and pirhanas. How does the orphan get to his father without getting eaten?
