Can you solve this riddle?

In ancient mythology creatures that were half woman half bird would tell people riddles and if they did not get it right they would be killed. This is the riddle they would ask. What creature walks on 4 feet in the morning, 2 feet in the afternoon, and 3 feet in the night?

Hint: Morning, afternoon, and night meant over the years in ancient times.

A human - 4 feet when we are infant, 2 feet when we are walking, and 3 feet when we are old and walking but need a cane(the third leg) to assist us.
