Can you solve this riddle?

There is an item in the store which costs 10 cents. A man walks to the cash register and asks for a hundred. He ends up paying only 30 cents. Neither the man nor the person at the cash register made a mistake. How is that possible?

The item was a house number. He asked for a hundred and got three numbers: 1, 0 and 0.
