Can you solve this riddle?

There was a bridge and the maximum weight the bridge held per car/truck was one ton. There was a truck that weighed 999.99kg and it went on the bridge. When the truck got halfway, a bird weighing 20g sat on the truck. Why didn't the bridge break?

By the time the truck got half way, it would have all ready lost more than 20g of petrol.
