Can you solve this riddle?

Two people are driving through a desert and come across a room. They try and open the doors but they are locked from the inside. They pry open the doors and they see a man hanging dead about eight feet off the floor with a puddle of water beneath him. How did he get there?

He stood on a ice block, tied the rope around his neck, and waited for the ice to melt.
