Can you solve this riddle?

A man robbed a bank on a hot day. He was caught later by the police. If it had been colder, he probably would not have been caught. Why?

He was wearing a short sleeved shirt and he had his name tattooed on his arm. On a colder day, he would have been wearing a long sleeved shirt thus not revealing his tattoo or his name.
